The site consisted of a UF followed by RO. The UF was composed of 5 trains with 32 modules on each train. The source of feedwater was industrial wastewater.<\/p>\n<p>After several years of operation, the UF demonstrated significantly reduced operating efficiency. The customer tried to recover permeability with repeated cleans using generic cleaning chemicals but, when these were unsuccessful, they decided to replace membrane modules in two of the trains. During this time, Kurita recommended a membrane autopsy to determine if the remaining modules could be saved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the root cause of the UF membrane performance decline through a detailed system audit and membrane autopsy.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the most effective cleaning chemistry to remove severe iron fouling and recover membrane permeability.<\/li>\n<li>Develop and implement an improved cleaning procedure that restores long-term UF system efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>Enhance operational performance while reducing membrane
