Ao mesmo tempo, est\u00e3o entre os maiores consumidores de \u00e1gua numa f\u00e1brica t\u00edpica, sendo frequentemente respons\u00e1veis por at\u00e9 40% da utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o total de \u00e1gua no local.<\/p><p>Tradicionalmente, as estrat\u00e9gias de gest\u00e3o da \u00e1gua t\u00eam-se centrado no tratamento da \u00e1gua fresca de abastecimento antes de esta entrar no sistema de arrefecimento. Embora isso possa melhorar a qualidade da \u00e1gua, pouco faz para resolver a depend\u00eancia geral da \u00e1gua ou a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1guas residuais. Uma oportunidade muito maior reside em repensar a forma como a descarga da torre de arrefecimento \u00e9 gerida.<\/p><p>A \u00e1gua de purga \u00e9 descarregada para controlar a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de sais e impurezas no circuito de refrigera\u00e7\u00e3o. Por ser mais concentrada do que a \u00e1gua de reposi\u00e7\u00e3o, tem sido historicamente vista como dif\u00edcil e arriscada de reutilizar.
