Reducing Corrosion in a CCGT Plant with Cetamine® Treatment

Background

Located in Southeast Spain, the power plant operates a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) system. The plant has faced challenges due to highly flexible operation, including frequent startups and shutdowns, which have led to corrosion issues such as Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) in various boiler components. The system lacks a condensate polishing unit and uses demineralized water produced via Electrodeionization (EDI) as make-up water.

These operational conditions prompted the need for a more robust water treatment strategy to protect the system and improve efficiency.

Objectives

  • Improve system protection during frequent cycling and shutdown periods.
  • Mitigate internal corrosion (FAC) in boiler components.
  • Reduce particle transport during start-ups.
  • Optimize blow-down strategy to minimize water loss.
  • Lower energy consumption associated
    with water heating.
  • Reduce CO2 emissions linked to energy use.
  • Enhance overall operational efficiency and reliability.
