RO Normalization for Accurate Performance Insights
Background
Reverse osmosis normalization is the process of adjusting operational data to reference conditions, eliminating the impact of varying situations such as temperature, feedwater quality, and pressure on the main performance metrics: permeate flowrates, differential pressures and salt rejection rates. Without normalization, it is very difficult to understand if the membranes are performing well under normal operating conditions.
Avista’s RO normalization calculations can be used in various RO configurations to better understand the needs of the system and early problem detection. In this case study, a 3-stage RO system with an interstage pump is normalized.
